Introduction

ISVS e journal is the official journal of the International Society for the Study of Vernacular Settlements published in support to its international conferences held once every two years since 2000.  The first ISVS conference was held in Jakarta, Indonesia and following a number of conferences held to date in Indonesia, India and Sri Lanka, it has established itself as a credible academic endeavor that can bring together academics and practitioners in the fields of Architecture and allied arts. While generating a mass and diversity of knowledge on the changing vernacular settlements particularly in Asia, it is laying the foundations for a mass movement that will promote the rejuvenation of vernacular as a viable settlement system for the modern world.  This publication consolidates its achievements and spearheads this movement.
